天门山，张家界最早被记入史册的名山，海拔1518.6米，距市区仅8公里，是张家界最具代表性的自然景观之一。长久以来，天门山不仅以其神奇独特的地质外貌、秀美无比的自然风景令人瞩目，更因其深远博大的文化内涵、异彩纷呈的人文胜迹闻名遐迩，被尊为张家界的文化之魂、精神之魂，有湘西第一神山的美誉。

    天门山山体孤峰高耸、气势临空独尊，世界最高海拔的天然穿山溶洞天门洞，悬于千寻素壁之上，成为奇绝天下的胜景，也成就了当地深厚、大气的“天文化”和“仙山文化”。天门山是张家界的第二个国家森林公园，山顶保存有完整的原始次生林，一年四季野趣盎然，加之溶丘石芽遍布，奇石秀木结伴而生，犹如神仙造就的盆景大观园。占地万余平方米的天门山寺，自明朝以来香火鼎盛，是湘西的佛教中心。“天门洞开、鬼谷显影、独角瑞兽”等六个千百年来的难解之谜，更是为天门山渲染着扑朔迷离、神秘出尘的气氛。

天门山的旅游交通设施堪称惊世之作，将为游客带来充满震撼的旅游体验。“天门山索道”、“通天大道”同“天门洞”、“空中盆景花园”一起被人誉为四大奇观。天门山索道，是世界最长的单线循环式客运索道，长7455米，高差1279米，将带游客从现代城市氛围直接投入原始空中花园的怀抱。索道运行途中风景变化万千，游客能有犹如凌空飞仙般的神奇体验，又如融身于一幅壮丽的山水画长卷。被称为通天大道的天门山盘山公路，全长不到11公里，海拔却从200米急剧提升至1300米，大道借山势扶摇直上，九十九弯弯弯紧连，层层叠起，宛若飞龙盘旋，直通天际，令人叹为观止，堪称天下第一公路奇观。

Tianmen Mountain , a famous mountain first recorded in the history of Zhangjiajie, has an elevation of 1518.6 meters. It is only 8 kilometers far from the downtown and is one of the most representative natural sceneries of Zhangjiajie. For a long time, Tianmen  Mountain not only attracts the attention of the people by its miraculous and unique geographic landform and unparalleled natural landscape, but also well known for its profound cultural connotations and famous colorful humanistic sites. It is revered as the soul of culture and spirit of Zhangjiajie and reputed as Number One Miraculous Mountain in Western Hunan.

The main body of Tianmen Mountain  is uniquely skyscraping and domineering. Tianmen Cave the natural mountain-penetrating karst cave with the highest elevation in the world, hangs on the towering cliff. The cave becomes the unique sight under heaven and breeds the profound and grand Heaven Culture and Culture of Fairy Mountain  in the local area. Tianmen Mountain is the second national forest park in Zhangjiajie. On the mountaintop are intact sub-primitive forests with overflowing wild atmosphere in all the seasons. In addition, the densely populated karst hillocks and karrens plus the mating of strange rocks and graceful trees create a grand garden of bonsai as if blessed by the God. Tianmen Mountain Temple, with an area of over 10000 square meters, enjoys a booming pilgrimage ever since the Ming Dynasty. It is the Buddhist center of Western Hunan. The six unresolved mysteries in the past hundreds of years such as Opening of Tianmen Cave, Shadow of Guigu, and Auspicious Unicorn  have added the mysterious and elusive atmosphere for Tianmen Mountain .

天门洞，世界最高海拔的天然穿山溶洞，三国吴永安六年(公元263年)，嵩梁山千米峭壁轰然洞开，玄朗如门，成为天下罕见奇景，嵩梁山亦由此改称天门山。

天门洞为南北对穿，门高131.5米，宽57米，深60米，拔地依天，态势崔嵬，影落沧溟北，云开斗柄南，宛若一道通天的门户。这一胜景，吸引着历代帝王官宦、隐贤逸士、高僧老道、文人墨客前来探访游赏，历经世代累积，形成了天门山独特厚重的“天文化”。

1999年，世界特技飞行大师驾机穿越天门洞，这一活动在全球引发轰动效应，收看现场直播的观众就达到8亿之多。

2006年3月17日至19日，“2006俄罗斯空军特技飞行表演活动”在天门山举行，苏-27重型战斗机和俄罗斯空军勇士在天门山上空又一次谱写了惊天传奇。

Tianmen Cave is the natural water-eroded cave with the highest elevation in the world. In the year 263(the sixth year of Wuyong Period of Three Kingdoms), the thousand-meter high cliff of Songliang Mountain suddenly broke open into a door-like cave which became a rare wonder of the world. Hence Songliang Mountain is change to Tianmen Mountain.    Tianmen Cave runs south-northward with a height of 131.5 meters, a width of 57meters and a depth of 60 meters. It rises above the ground and nears the sky with a lofty and towering posture. The shadow of it reaches the north of the vast sea, the clouds over it near the south of the handle of the Dipper. It's much like a gate towards the heaven. The wonder attracted the visits and appreciations by emperors, officials, sages, hermits, dignitaries and men of letters of different dynasties. After the accumulation over the dynasties, the unique profound Culture of Heaven is built up.  In 1999, the masters of international stunt flying piloted the planes to fly through Tianmen Cave. The activity gave rising to sensational reactions in the world. There were 800 million audiences watching the live telecast.On March 17-19, “The 2006 Russia Air Force Aerobatics Performance ” entered ceremoniously in Tianmen Mountain of Zhangjiajie , the Soviet-27 heavy battle plane and Russia air force warrior composed a world-shaking legend here once more .

世界最长的高山客运索道天门山索道，共有轿厢98个，索道支架57个（含3个救护支架），全部采用法POMA公司原装进口设备。索道全长7455米，高差1279米，是国内为数不多高差超过千米的索道之一，其中站到上站之间的局部斜度更高达37度，世界罕见，是国内局部斜度最大的索道，同时也是支架最多的索道。

Tianmen Mountain Cableway, the longest passenger cableway of high mountains in the world, has 98 cars and 57 brackets altogether (including 3 rescuing brackets), all of which are original imported facilities from POMA, the French corporation. The cableway has a total length of 7455 meters and a height gap of 1279 meters. It is one of the few cable cars within China with a height gap over 1000 meters. The local gradient from the middle station to the upper station is as high as 37 degrees, which is rare in the world. It is the cableway with the largest local gradient as well as one with most brackets in China

    天门山地质上为完整的向斜构造单元，发育着典型的中山岩溶台地峰林峡谷地貌。天门山的山顶为岩溶台地绝壁景观，溶丘、石芽广布，构成一片片空中石林奇观，又因遍地青苔覆盖，野藤缠绕，奇石秀木结伴而生，处处皆是天成的盆景，犹如神仙造就的盆景大观园，可以令游客尽情领略自然奇趣，感受造化神奇。

    Tianmen Mountain  is an integrated synclinal geological unit which has the landform of middle-mountain karst platform with peak groups and canyons. The top of Tianmen mountain is a cliff sight of karst platform. The karst hillocks and karrens spread wildly to form wonders of stone forests in the air. Moreover, with moss spreading all over the ground, wild vines twining and twisting, what come into sight are natural bonsais like grand gardens which were as if created by the immortals. The tourists can relish the natural wonders and feel the miracles of the Creator to their hearts' content.

为了让游人从更高的角度，更宽的视野欣赏山顶的风光，也为了让众多信徒能更快更省力地去往为于山顶北部的天门山寺，天门山景区特修建了一条山顶的观光吊椅索道，索道起点为云梦仙顶，终点到樱桃湾，全长800米，无论是轿厢的设计还是调试的速度都给游人的山顶游览赋予了充分的时间和空间，让人感觉是自己漫步于空中花园之上，惬意无限。

In order that tourists may enjoy the scenery on the summit at a higher angle and with a broader vision and numerous Buddhists may reach Tian Men Mountain Temple in the north of the summit faster with ease, Tian Men Mountain scenic area has built a summit sightseeing hanging chair cableway starting from Yunmeng Fairy Summit and ending at the Cherry Bay with a whole length of 800 m. Both the design of the car and adjustment speed render the tourists with full time and space for touring the summit and one feels as if he is walking on the garden in the air with absolute satisfaction.

张家界之巅——云梦仙顶，海拔1518.6米，为天门山之顶，张家界之巅。环看四周，天门山十六峰造型各异；放眼望去，武陵源风光尽收眼底；眺望城市，张家界新貌一览无遗。

The summit of Zhang Jiajie---Yunmeng Fairy Summit, 1518.6 m above sea level, is the summit of Tianmen Mountain and Zhang Jiajie. Looking around, the sixteen peaks of Tianmen Mountain are different in shape; looking afar, the scenery of Wulingyuan comes into view; looking into the city, the new appearance of Zhang Jiajie is taken in at a glance.

天门山寺始建于唐朝，是湘西地区的佛教中心。现在的天门山寺为原址重修，占地面积万余平方米，采用清代官式风格，庙宇内建筑堪与国内各古典名楼相娉美。寺庙坐落山窝，视野开阔，极目东南，众山皆小，确有一山独尊的气概。

Tian Men Mountain Temple was first built in the Tang Dynasty as a center of Buddhism in the area of western Hunan.The present Tian Men Mountain Temple is rebuilt on the basis of the original site with a plot area of more than 10,000 sqm. It adopts an official style of the Qing Dynasty and the buildings in the Temple compare well with the famous classical houses at home. The Temple is located in the mountain hollow with a broad vision. If one gazes into the southeast, all the hills seem to be so small that the Temple is really like an overlord.
